Yes, lots of scientists think this is possible that there was life on Mars (like small microorganisms) as they think there was water previously. However, we haven’t found life signs yet so there are lots of missions to keep looking.

But because Mars is much smaller than Earth, its gravity is smaller so it wasn’t able to hold onto that water in its atmosphere and it escaped into space – becoming the much more drier place we see today.
